Little Five Points Intersection - UPDATE

The City of Sarasota's Engineering Dept. appointed a task force to address concerns with the intersection of Oak, Orange and Pineapple at Little Five Points. Kate Lowman and Mike Shade represent the LPNA on this task force. Engineering has created a design for this intersection and is looking for comment.

This is the action the City Commission took on Feb. 19, 2008 to direct staff :

A motion was made by Commissioner Clapp, seconded by Vice Mayor Kirschner, and carried by a 3-2 vote with Commissioner Atkins and Shelin voting no - to pursue a modified do-nothing option in conjunction with an investigation of a refined design for a roundabout at Alderman St. and Orange Av. and to authorize staff to request a scope of services for the completion of the necessary field survey and design work for a plan to present to the Commission along with an estimate and possible funding options.

It is official! The National Park Service awarded the Laurel Park historic neighborhood designation as a National Register of Historic Places District on March 11, 2008! It is a grand and prestigious honor. Laurel Park becomes the City's 7th national historic district and its largest!

February 20, 2008 - "City Chooses a Roundabout Site".....Read about the Commissioners decision on the intersection at Orange Avenue, Oak Street and Pineapple....

City Commissioners voted 3-2 to move the proposed roundabout back to the intersection of Alderman St. and Orange Avenue, the original site for the roundabout.

Update: Future Civic Parking in the Little Five Points Area

Nov. 19, 2007, The City Commission gave their approval for the City Manager to negotiate with both the Woman's Exchange organization and Michael Saunders for the purchase of one of two sites to meet future parking needs in the Little Five Points area.

Nov. 5 2007, The City Commission voted 5-0 to negotiate the purchase of Michael Saunder's property on the corner of Orange and Laurel for any future parking needs the Little Fve Points area has. We will hope The Woman's Exchange Organization will reconsider selling and remain the anchor retailer for the Little Five Points area of downtown.
