Minutes of the Laurel Park Neighborhood Association Board Meeting Tuesday May 9, 2006

The meeting, held at Payne Park, was called to order by Kate Lowman at 6:30 PM.
Attending: Debbie Dart, Suzy Hagglund, Kate Lowman, Mike Shade, Dick Sheldon, Barbara Southard, Betsy Sublett.
Absent: Chris Jaensch
Guests: LPNA resident: Kathryn Rodgers, LPNA resident: Kasy Silver Kane (candidate for LPNA Board vacancy)

Agenda:

1. Treasurer-s report given by Betsy Sublett.
- Checking account balance: $1420.06
- Credits $852.00 ($232.00 dues and donations and $620.00 advertising).
- Debits: $1392.14 ($875.00 newsletter and $127.14 Tunes in the Park).
- Motion by Barbara Southard to accept treasurer-s report; seconded by Deb Dart and carried unanimously.

2. Review minutes of April 10, 2006 LPNA Board meeting.
- LPNA board members were emailed minutes following April meeting.
- No exceptions noted.
- Motion by Barbara Southard to accept treasurer-s report; seconded by Deb Dart and carried unanimously.

3. Newsletter Report
- Formal newsletter report not given.
- Kate Lowman and Barbara Southard exploring options to cover cost of layout and printing with advertising dollars to be further discussed at a future meeting.

4. New LPNA Board Member (filling vacancy left by Ed Chase).
- Kate Lowman introduced Kasy Silver Kane for new board member opening.
- Kasy agreed to accept Social Coordinator chair.
- Kate Lowman will fill Grant Writing chair vacated by Ed.
- No others candidates appeared at the meeting.
- Motion by Barbara Southard to appoint Kasy Kane to LPNA board; seconded by Betsy Sublett and carried unanimously.

5. LP National Historic District Update given by Deb Dart.
- City has approved $12,000.00 funding for Historic District designation application.
- Application will be written by consultant, GAI, who is familiar with Sarasota.
- June 13, 2006, at 3:00 PM @ City Hall auditorium, GAI will give presentation for City Historic Preservation Board meeting., and LPNA committee will meet with them.
- Time frame to complete: approximately 1 year.
- Oct.1,2006- 1st draft of application to Laurel Park and to the City HP advisory board; Dec. 2006 Final application to City and State of Florida for review and recommendation to the National Park Service for review and approval. Designation on or about June 2007.
- Reviewed advantages of Historic District designation to property owners.

7. County land use update given by Kate Lowman
- Laurel Street site has breen changed to downtown edge.
- No comments made by city commissioners on buffer requirements (Note: this will be addressed when they rezone the property.)
- City has requested another neighborhood meeting.

8. Comprehensive Plan update given by Kate Lowman
- Board reviewed text changes and will finalize at the next meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM.
